High Quality Instruction

Early Warning Indicators

Using the data below, describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

To address the specific academic performance issues indicated by the early warning systems, Coconut Creek K8 has implemented a range of intervention strategies. The issues indicated by the early warning system include chronic absenteeism, scores on the state assessments, and students with a substantial reading deficiency.
The interventions employed to address chronic absenteeism include attendance tracking by the teacher and the information management technician. Teachers are responsible for contacting parents if a student is absent three days in a row and tracking patterns of tardiness or early sign-outs. A MTSS team consisting of the administration, the literacy coach, the classroom teacher, the school psychologist, the school counselor, and the school social worker will establish communication with parents or guardians to address the reasons for absenteeism and encourage regular school attendance.
CCK8 will implement specific intervention strategies aimed at reducing suspensions. The Positive Behavior Team developed a school-wide positive behavior plan with 5 specific expectations and rules for the hallway and cafeteria. The goal of the plan is to create a positive school environment that reinforces good behavior and addresses discipline issues proactively. CCK8will also engage parents and guardians in conversation about their child’s behavior and provide them with resources and strategies to support them. The school counselor and administration will implement restorative justice practices to promote conflict resolution, empathy, and accountability to reduce the number of suspensions.
To address struggling students a substantial reading deficiency, CCK8 will frequently analyze the specific areas of weakness for students who scored Level 1 on ELA and math assessments to identify common trends. CCK8 will also conduct quarterly data chats to monitor the progress of all students. Teachers and instructional coaches will provide additional targeted instruction and resources to meet the needs of the students in  ELA.  A school-wide intervention block will be implemented where additional resource teachers and support personnel will work with students who scored level 1 or level 2 on the state assessments. Furthermore, after-school tutoring programs will be specifically designed to close the achievement gap for these students. Finally, the instructional coaches will also conduct coaching cycles to improve teachers’ instructional practice and meet with the administration on a weekly or biweekly basis to collaborate on the support teachers may need.
