Early Warning Indicators

Using the data below, describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

Intervention Strategies Based on Early Warning Indicators

1. Attendance Interventions

To combat chronic absenteeism and tardiness, the school implements the following:

  • Daily Attendance Incentives:
    A reward system where the grade level with the best attendance each day is recognized or rewarded, promoting a school-wide culture of punctuality and consistent attendance.

  • Social Worker Follow-Up:
    A dedicated school social worker follows up with students who are chronically tardy or absent, engaging with families to identify and address barriers such as transportation, home responsibilities, or health issues.

2. Academic Performance Interventions (Level 1 in ELA and Math)

  • Professional Development for Teachers:
    Teachers receive ongoing professional development focused on differentiated instruction, intervention strategies, and best practices in ELA and Math instruction to better support struggling learners.

  • Data-Driven Instruction:
    The school uses student assessment data to guide instructional decisions. Teachers analyze performance data to identify gaps, group students strategically, and adjust instruction based on real-time needs.

  • Inclusive Scheduling:
    Schedules are designed to provide built-in time for interventions and support, ensuring students who need extra help receive it during the school day without being pulled from core instruction.

3. Response to Intervention (RtI) Framework

To systematically support students based on their level of need:

  • Tier 1 – Universal Instruction:
    All students receive high-quality, research-based instruction in the general education classroom. Teachers regularly assess learning and adjust instruction to meet whole-group needs.

  • Tier 2 – Targeted Small Group Interventions:
    Students identified as at-risk through early warning data (e.g., scoring Level 1 on state assessments) receive additional small group instruction focused on specific skill gaps in ELA and Math.

  • Tier 3 – Intensive Individualized Support:
    For students not making adequate progress in Tier 2, more intensive, individualized interventions are provided. Progress is closely monitored, and interventions are adjusted as needed.

  • Progress Monitoring:
    Students in Tiers 2 and 3 are frequently monitored using formative assessments to determine the effectiveness of interventions and inform next steps.

4. Grade Retention Support

For students who have been retained:

  • Instructional Improvement:
    The school is focused on enhancing instructional practices across all grade levels to ensure that retained students—and those at risk—receive engaging, effective teaching tailored to their learning needs.

  • Individualized Learning Plans:
    Retained students may receive personalized academic plans, integrating data from RtI, teacher observations, and assessment results to guide support and track progress.
