School-Level Implementation of Assessment, Standards, and Instruction
In alignment with State Board Rule 6A-6.053, McNicol Middle School ensures that reading instruction is systematic, explicit, and data-driven through a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) and a robust Response to Intervention (RtI) framework. The school uses a variety of early warning indicators to identify students at risk and to guide instructional decisions.

McNicol Middle School utilizes the DT2 Middle School Identification/Intervention Decision Tree to analyze student performance data and determine appropriate interventions. The following indicators are monitored:

1. Tiered Instructional Supports:
   • Tier 1: High-quality core instruction aligned to B.E.S.T. standards.
   • Tier 2: Small group interventions for students identified through progress monitoring.
   • Tier 3: Intensive, individualized interventions for students with persistent deficiencies. This also includes options for math support, reading, and learning strategies classes when applicable.

   • Regular use of diagnostic tools and formative assessments to track student growth.
   • Data teams meet bi-weekly to review student performance and adjust interventions.
