Early Warning Indicators

Using the data below, describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

Early Warning Indicators – Intervention Strategies

1. Attendance (200 students absent 10% or more days)

  • Implement daily attendance monitoring with parent contact for early intervention.
  • Provide incentives for improved attendance (classroom recognition, schoolwide rewards).
  • Collaborate with social worker and attendance boundary team for chronic cases.
  • Offer morning check-in/mentoring for students with frequent absences.

2. Suspensions (13 students with one or more)

  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) with clear expectations.
  • Provide targeted behavior interventions such as Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) and social skills groups.
  • Increase parent communication and restorative practices in lieu of suspension.
  • Utilize behavior specialist and counselors for Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.

3. Course Failures (ELA: 6; Math: 5)

  • Provide targeted small-group instruction and tutoring before/after school.
  • Monitor progress through biweekly data chats with teachers and students.
  • Implement push-in support from interventionists and paraprofessionals.
  • Use adaptive programs (iReady and Progress Learning) for skill-building.

4. Level 1 on Statewide Assessments (ELA: 167; Math: 163)

  • Provide intensive remediation through MTSS and RtI (Response to Intervention).
  • Schedule daily intervention blocks focused on foundational skills.
  • Use standards-aligned progress monitoring assessments to guide instruction.
  • Provide extended learning opportunities (Saturday academy, afterschool tutoring).

5. Substantial Reading/Math Deficiencies (K–3 Reading: 69; K–4 Math: 43)

  • Provide immediate intervention aligned with state requirements (Rule 6A-6.0531).
  • Assign reading interventionists for K–3 students; implement daily phonics and fluency practice.
  • Use structured math interventions for number sense and computation.
  • Communicate progress with parents through regular reports and home strategies.

6. Students with 2 or More Indicators (34 students)

  • Develop individualized support plans through MTSS with academic + behavioral strategies if needed.
  • Assign mentors or case managers for weekly check-ins.
  • Involve parents in collaborative problem-solving meetings.
  • Provide wraparound supports (social-emotional, attendance, academic interventions).

7. Retentions (48 students retained, 8 with multiple retentions)

  • Monitor retained students closely through early data chats.
  • Provide targeted Tier 1 instruction and interventions during the Bloom Block
  • Engage parents with retention support plans and progress meetings.
  • Incorporate strategies to build confidence and persistence.
