Attucks Middle School offers educational enrichment, mentoring, and engagement initiatives aimed at improving student attendance, behavior, and academic performance—particularly for those identified through early warning indicators.  

Attucks Middle School also provides targeted mentoring programs to support students identified as struggling or at-risk. These include: 

These mentoring initiatives are designed to foster academic and positive social interactions, reduce risk behaviors, and equip students with life skills to become self-sufficient, productive adults. Students receive homework assistance and tutoring across all core subjects. 

School Counselors along with the magnet coordinator, ESE specialist and assistant principal monitor attendance to identify students with a pattern of excused and unexcused absences. Parent contact and student check-in sessions are held to combat absenteeism and provide support to families with assistance from our schools’ social worker if needed.   

To support academic achievement, students have access to computer-based enrichment programs in Reading, Math, and ELA, which are strategically aligned to improve performance on the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.) exams.  Additional academic interventions include elective class pullouts for core class remediations in reading and math. Small group instruction and progress monitoring provides feedback and data to adjust academic instruction delivery to meet student needs and academic achievement. Students in need of course recovery are provided with pullout sessions or class schedules that provide time slots to allow sufficient opportunities for completion. 

The Life Skills & Wellness (LSW) program is fully embedded into interdisciplinary studies across all grade levels, promoting holistic development. To address chronic absenteeism, Attucks offers enhanced elective courses such as culinary, leadership, law studies, T.V production, speech and debate that increase student engagement and positively impact attendance.
