High Quality Instruction

Early Warning Indicators

Using the data below, describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

Bair MIddle uses various computer programs such as SuccessMaker, Common Lit, Newsela, Mastery Connect, Nearpod, CPalms, IXL, and Khan Academy to assess where students are struggling or progressing througout the year.  Each department meets in weekly professional learning communities for two consecutive mornings to discuss their scope and sequence of each grade level, assessment dates for formative and summative data points, and themes for Project-Based Learning that will occur quarterly.  Students who score in the reteach ranges (0-30%), attend after-school tutoring and work in small teacher directed groups, while the enrichment students (75-99%) participate in technology learning stations.  Our Math Coach works with our lowest 30% as well as our Alegebra and Geometry EOC students who struggled on last year's EOC assessment. The Math and Literacy Coach model lessons for teachers who are three years or less in the teaching field, and any struggling teacher needing assistance with the classroom environment and teaching strategies. Our Literacy Coach models comprehension strategies for our non-ELA teachers so literacy strategies and vocabulary infusion is used in all content area classes. This year, our school is one of the host schools for the District Super Saturday Camp designated for 8th graders to focus in on their Math  and Science Algebra readiness skills and EOC and Biology skills.  This also facilitates their preparation into their high school years.  Department Chairs meet monthly with the Administrative team to analyze school data, department pacing gudes, assessment scores, and professional learning communities grows and glows.  Discussions are held to share best practices and different criteria used to create small groups for reteach and enrichment so students can have instruction based on their individual needs in all classes. Teachers participate in ongoing data chats and conduct student data chats in their classrooms after monthly assessments.  Our data from PM1 (progress Monitoring 1) to PM2 (Progress Monitoring 2), shows a great decrease in our Level 1 students compared to PM1 last year. Our focus for our Math coach  will be in the 8th grade and Algebra 1 and Geometry classes . The ELA scores showed some decreases in our percentages of Level 1 scores last year.   All of our content area teachers analyzed the three ELA clusters and will work in Cluster 3 (Reading Across Gebres and Vocabulary) as a schoolwide effort to increase the proficiency in this area by usng comprehension strategies and graphic organizers with their materials.

Mid-Year Reflection

Progress: Is desired progress being made to accomplish the intended outcome for the Area of Focus by the end of the school year? Yes
Evidence: Provide evidence of the implementation challenges the school encountered during the Fall semester. Describe the changes made to address these challenges.
Mid‑year data indicates promising progress toward our ELA goals. With 50.3% overall gains and 41.8% gains among the Lowest 25%, the foundation is in place. By sustaining momentum, intensifying targeted interventions, and strengthening instructional practices, BAIR Middle School is positioned to continue accelerating student achievement and move closer to its end‑of‑year proficiency and learning gains targets.
Evidence-based Interventions/Strategies: What was each Intervention/Strategy’s identified strengths and weaknesses?
Targeted L1–L2 Interventions
  • Strengths: Small‑group pull‑outs, tutoring, and station rotations allowed for focused skill development. Scaffolds such as vocabulary supports, sentence frames, and graphic organizers increased student access to grade‑level content.
  • Weaknesses: Time constraints limited the frequency and duration of interventions for some students.
Goal‑Setting and Progress Monitoring
  • Strengths: Helped students track growth and build ownership of learning.
  • Weaknesses: Needed more consistent implementation across classrooms.
ELL/SWD Supports
  • Strengths: Targeted supports addressed individual student needs.
  • Weaknesses: Scheduling sometimes limited consistent delivery.
Lunch Blookit / Tested Content Practice
  • Strengths: Increased engagement and reinforced tested standards.
  • Weaknesses: Limited reach to all targeted students.
Step‑Up Saturdays
  • Strengths: Provided targeted Saturday support for High Level 1 and High Level 2 students.
  • Weaknesses: Participation levels varied and require continued outreach.
Push‑In/Pull‑Out Support
  • Strengths: Allowed coaching and real‑time instructional support.
  • Weaknesses: Scheduling coordination needs improvement for maximum impact.
New Actions: Describe any new actions that are needed to accomplish the intended outcome for the Area of Focus.
To accomplish the intended outcome for this Area of Focus, the following actions will be implemented:
  • Increase Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, with a focus on High Level 1 and High Level 2 students.
  • Expand Step‑Up Saturdays and targeted remediation opportunities based on current data.
  • Strengthen small‑group, skill‑based instruction during the school day.
  • Reinforce pacing and instructional focus around priority standards.
  • Increase rigor and academic discourse, particularly text‑based discussion and writing.
  • Embed literacy strategies across all content areas to support comprehension and vocabulary development.
  • Use data more intentionally to drive remediation and instructional adjustments.
Additional Reflections (optional): Please add any additional reflections for this Area of Focus.
