School Couseling:

  • Teachers identify and report academic concerns to grade-level school counselors.
  • Teachers identify and report behavioral concerns, including social skills, organizational skills, time management issues, conduct, course acclimation, and health and well-being.
  • School counselors meet with struggling students and together create a plan to ensure progress towards course credit, credit recovery, raising their GPA, and fulfilling graduation requirements.
  • Counselors schedule parent conferences to provide parents with the most current information regarding their child's academic and/or behavioral progress. They work with the parent to identify strategies that will provide the student with the greatest success.
  • Counselors work with teachers to facilitate small group learning in the Innovative Learning Center (ILC) to provide academic assistance.
  • Counselors work with inside and outside agencies and other resources to assist STHS families (parents & students) with both academic and social needs.

Mid-Year Reflection

Progress: Is desired progress being made to accomplish the intended outcome for the Area of Focus by the end of the school year? Yes
Evidence: Provide evidence of the implementation challenges the school encountered during the Fall semester. Describe the changes made to address these challenges.
Challenges: Student were not enrolled in ELA classes for the Fall Term on a 4x4 Block schedule, which would impede their ability to graduate without this requirement completed.
Addressed by:
  • Meeting with students not enrolled in ELA classes for the Fall Term on a 4x4 Block schedule;
  • Pull-out and Push-in groups by Literacy Coach for students enrolled in an ELA course;
  • implementation of school-wide literacy plan with usage of Albert iO where students practice standards-based literacy enrichment skills on a biweekly schedule for all students including those not enrolled in an ELA Course;
  • ELA tutoring offered after school weekly to all students for remediation and/or enrichment practices.
Evidence-based Interventions/Strategies: What was each Intervention/Strategy’s identified strengths and weaknesses?

Targeted Small-Group Instruction and Tier 2 Supports
Strengths:
Small-group instruction effectively addressed specific skill gaps identified through PM1 and PM2 data, particularly for students near proficiency. This approach allowed teachers to provide differentiated instruction focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing structure, contributing to measurable student growth.

Weaknesses:
Scheduling constraints and attendance inconsistencies occasionally limited student participation in intervention sessions. Additionally, progress monitoring required frequent adjustments to ensure instructional groups remained responsive to student needs.

New Actions: Describe any new actions that are needed to accomplish the intended outcome for the Area of Focus.
There are no new actions, but we will continue to offer professional development for teachers to implement effective literacy strategies across both Grades 9 and 10 to prepare students for ELA FAST PM 3; Continue work on building common pacing guides and CFAs for the Grade 9 and 10 ELA courses in conjunction with the other BTC high schools.
Additional Reflections (optional): Please add any additional reflections for this Area of Focus.
Finding the new practice of Literacy Meetings with the other BTC high schools in admin and literacy coach teams. Continued progress monitoring of students who are preparing for the ELA FAST PM 3 and retakes at the 11th and 12th Grade (for graduation requirement).

Area of Focus: B.E.S.T. Mathematics

Measurable Outcome (SMART Goal) Professional Development Budget Monitoring Results
(End of Year)
By June 2026, STHS students will show an increase in their Learning Gains by 10%, from 73% to 83%, among the Lowest Quartile students as measured by the BEST Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments. • Math (Algebra 1 and Geometry) tutoring offered after school weekly to all students for remediation and/or enrichment practices.
Evidence-based Interventions/Strategies: What was each Intervention/Strategy’s identified strengths and weaknesses?

Intervention/Strategy 1: Targeted Small-Group Instruction for Lowest Quartile Students

Strengths:
Small-group instruction allowed teachers to directly address skill gaps identified through diagnostic data and ongoing formative assessments in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Instruction focused on prerequisite skills, problem-solving strategies, and mathematical reasoning, which increased student confidence and engagement. Progress monitoring data indicated steady improvement among Lowest Quartile students, supporting gains toward the Learning Gains target.

Weaknesses:
Scheduling challenges and inconsistent attendance sometimes limited sustained participation in small-group sessions. Additionally, the varying levels of foundational gaps among Lowest Quartile students required frequent regrouping and instructional adjustments

New Actions: Describe any new actions that are needed to accomplish the intended outcome for the Area of Focus.
There are not  new action steps, but we will continue to offer professional development for teachers to implement effective math strategies in both Algebra 1 and Geometry courses to prepare students for BEST ALG 1 and Geometry EOCs; Continue work on building common pacing guides and CFAs for the ALG 1 and Geometry courses in conjunction with the other BTC high schools; Increased number of sessions for "High Dosage" tutoring from Varsity Tutors from 10 sessions to 26 sessions in the Spring Term.
Additional Reflections (optional): Please add any additional reflections for this Area of Focus.
