High Quality Instruction

Early Warning Indicators

Using the data below, describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

Colbert Museum Magnet utilizes the Early Warning Indicators to support grades K-5 in the core content areas. The focus will be on early identification of students who have absenteeism of 10% or more, are a level one in ELA and Mathematics, and/or are previously retained students. Implementing an evidence-based sequence for instruction is crucial for enhancing student positive outcomes. Colbert Museum Magnet establishes a systematic and data-driven approach using the following:

  • Providing Instructional Labs and Professional Development for Educators: Regular training sessions on effective reading, mathematics, and science instruction strategies. Workshops focused on evidence-based practices that aid increased student achievement.
  • Data Monitoring and Analysis: Colbert Museum Magnet collect and analyze student performance data through formative assessments (ongoing checks for understanding) and summative assessments (end-of-term evaluations) to track progress over time. The data team with the teacher interpret the data and make instructional decisions.
  • Instructional Coaching: All content area instructional coaches as well as district coaches to collaborate closely with teachers, providing ongoing support and feedback. Coaches help implement evidence-based practices in the classroom and assist with data analysis.
  • Regular Walkthroughs and Feedback: School and district administration conduct regular walkthroughs and observations to provide feedback to teacher’s fidelity of the implementation of instruction in all content areas.
  • Additional Intervention Groups and Extended Learning Opportunities: Students exhibiting early warning indicators are targeted through small group interventions during the school day where they are serviced based on skill deficits revealed during diagnostic testing and formative assessments. These scholars’ deficits are also addressed in our extended learning opportunities provided after school. In addition, scholars attend a fluency-based Innovation Lab twice a week that aims to increase fluency in both reading and math concepts to further achievement. This is addressed through uncommon teaching concepts different than the instructional format used in classrooms. Students get to fully immerse themselves in fun-filled game-based academia.
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a multi-tiered framework designed to provide early and systematic assistance to students who are struggling academically or behaviorally. Colbert Museum Magnet RTI Team monitors students in the RTI process and determines next steps for students at risk for academic failure, providing timely interventions, and continuously monitoring progress to determine effectiveness ensure that all students receive the support they need to succeed academically and behaviorally.
  • Tier 1: High-quality, research-based instruction delivered to all students in the general education classroom. Teachers regularly assess students' academic and behavioral performance to identify those who may need additional support.
  • Tier 2: Students identified as at risk through Tier 1 assessments receive targeted interventions in small groups. Interventions are data-driven and based on specific needs, with regular monitoring to assess their effectiveness.
  • Tier 3: For students who continue to struggle despite Tier 2 interventions, more intensive, individualized support is provided. Involves smaller group instruction or one-on-one tutoring sessions, with a focus on specific skill deficits.
Colbert Museum Magnet uses the K-12 CERP Elementary Decision Tree to determine student instructional needs as well as interventions for students.
